Ciara’s Grandma Dances To “Got Me Good”: Idolator Exclusive
Gladys Still Got It |
There’s an epidemic sweeping the nation. Symptoms include your back aching, your bra being too tight and your booty shaking from left to right. The nature of this grave affliction? Hearing Ciara‘s new single “Got Me Good,” the lead single from the chanteuse’s Epic Records debut One Woman Army, and getting all tuckered out from dancing too hard.
One of the earliest casualties to fall victim was none other than Ciara’s own grandmother, Gladys, who succumbed upon hearing the electrifying R&B smash for the first time - so as a special treat to her fans, Ciara hooked Idolator up with an exclusive video of Gladys popping, locking and dropping to “Got Me Good.” Viewers, take note: This footage is very shocking. Remember to take a multivitamin, see your doctor for regular check-ups and when you get that urge to dance, just go with it. There’s no point in trying to resist - these beats are just too hot. Watch Ciara’s exclusive video up top.

Train’s “Bruises” Featuring Ashley Monroe: Watch The Call-And-Response Video
Train premiered the music video for “Bruises,” their call-and-response collaboration with country singer Ashley Monroe, of the trio Pistol Annies. Monroe also appears in the video, but she and Train singer Pat Monahan never actually appear onscreen together, heightening the song’s sense of faded love. ”Bruises” is the third single off Train’s album California 37, and the band is nominated for a 2012 American Music Award in the Adult Contemporary Music category. We’ll have extensive coverage of the awards, which air November 18. Watch the video for “Bruises” here.

Popping Up: Becky G
Becky G Pops Up |
Popping Up is our recurring look at new artists making noise on the music landscape. Because, hey - Madonna and Britney were once unknown, too.
Dr. Luke is arguably the biggest producer in pop music, so when he hand-selects an artist to mentor and develop, there’s gotta be something big there - even if it comes in a small package. The superproducer’s latest protege is Becky G, a multi-talented singer, rapper and songwriter who’s already got the talent and experience of industry vets twice her age. (She’s 15, for the record.) Having already lent her vocal chops with Cody Simpson and Cher Lloyd on singles, and with a will.i.am collaboration featured prominently on the new Hotel Transylvania soundtrack, Becky is poised to break big.
Becky’s been hard at work in the studio working on an as-yet untitled album (no details on that yet), while continuing to satiate her fans’ appetite with YouTube covers (her big break was when a label exec saw her cover of Kanye West and Jay-Z‘s “Otis”), so we sat down with her to find out more about her story. Watch the interview up top, and head below for more info about Becky G, plus her video for “Problem (The Monster Remix)” featuring will.i.am.
FULL NAME: Becky Gomez
AGE: 15
HOMETOWN: Inglewood, California
SOUNDS LIKE: Her collaborator Cher Lloyd, with a little bit of Ke$ha‘s pop-rap swag and vocal chops like Selena Gomez
INFLUENCES: Becky cites “powerful women in the industry” as being important sources of inspiration for her: She lists off Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera and Selena. But looking through her YouTube covers of tracks by Kanye West, Jay-Z and Frank Ocean, it’s clear that there’s also a pervasive hip-hop influence in her sound.
AUSPICIOUS BEGINNINGS: After Dr. Luke saw one of Becky G’s covers, he demanded to meet her in person. “From what Luke told me,” Becky explains, “he was instantly, like, ‘Oh my God, I need to meet this girl.’ So literally the day after he saw the music video, I met him. And he was like, ‘I’m in.’”
HER SONGWRITING STYLE: As impressively precocious as she is, Becky recognizes that there’s still a lot to learn, and when she’s in the studio, she’s trying to inhale as much new information as possible. “I like to think of myself as a little sponge,” Becky says. “When I’m in sessions with [Luke] or his team - his producers and writers - I’m always taking things in.”
A “MONSTER” REMIX: A longtime fan of animated films, she says a career highlight (so far) was watching the new film Hotel Transylvania and hearing her song with will.i.am, “Problem (The Monster Remix)” featured in the film. “It was really cool to go to the screening for the first time and to watch the movie - and then my song! My voice in the theater, and seeing all these people bopping their heads to the music.” Given the track she’s currently on, it probably won’t be the last time.

Get A Glimpse Of Diamonds |
Rihanna‘s music video for her latest single “Diamonds” will premiere Thursday (November 8) at 6:50 p.m. ET on MTV, with an introduction by RiRi herself. Ahead of the premiere, the network has released a behind-the-scenes preview, in which we spotted: Rihanna swimming, Rihanna in a desert and Rihanna in a charred urban landscape teeming with riot cops, reminiscent of the “No Church In The Wild” video. And also, a white stallion.
Seven Albums, Seven Looks
7 Photos »The video was directed by Anthony Mandler, who has helmed over a dozen of her videos including “Disturbia,” “Man Down” and “Only Girl (In The World).” The song appears on RiRi’s seventh album Unapologetic, out November 19.

No Doubt’s “Looking Hot” Music Video: Watch As They Head To The Wild West
Take A Good Look |
No Doubt‘s music video for their latest single “Looking Hot” has arrived - via horseback. The video opens in the old west, Gwen Stefani (dressed in Native American garb, similar to Azealia Banks in “Liqourice”) and Tony Kanal are outlaws being held captive by Adrian and Tom. Will the pair escape? Watch above as Gwen chills in her teepee with a wolf, sends pink smoke signals to Tony and has a killer bonfire dance.
Do you think Nylon cover gal is looking hot in her feathered headdress - we do! In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Gwen’s 2013 L.A.M.B. line isn’t entirely based off of her wardrobe in this music video.

Ashlee Simpson’s “Bat For A Heart”: Preview Her Comeback Track
A Halloween Surprise |
Ashlee Simpson turned out an unexpected Halloween treat this evening (October 31) when she premiered a teaser of her new video and single, the oh-so-spooky “Bat For A Heart.” As announced on her newly revamped official website, the song will be released with an accompanying video on November 21.
As for the song, it’s weird and shadowy, evoking - among other things - Kavinsky‘s “Nightcall” from the Drive soundtrack, with squelchy synths and thudding bass. “I’m gonna bang bang, fuck you up / Twist you out inside of my head,” she sings over the eerie track. Simpson has never been a trailblazer, musically, but when it comes to following and refining sonic trends, she’s the best in the business - and “Bat For A Heart” promises to be a worthy entrant in the canon of dark, moody pop that currently dominates the airwaves. Listen up top.

Sky Ferreira’s “Sad Dream” Video: Watch Her Shoot, Steal & Sulk
Sky Is Blue |
Sky Ferreira has premiered the music video for “Sad Dream,” the opening track from her just-released Ghost EP. If you’re expecting the synth-pop sultriness of “Everything Is Embarrassing” or the angsty crunch of “Red Lips,” well, this is from yet another section of the pop chameleon’s palette. But like those other two videos, this one features Sky’s pouty lips and puppy dog eyes staring achingly at the camera. In addition to the video, Sky unveiled a small string of tour dates, which you can see after the jump.
Directed by Grant Singer, who was behind the camera for her “Everything” clip, this video finds Ferreira and her beau living the range life - driving a pickup truck, shooting guns, stealing liquor, staying in a tacky motel room, etc. The modern western setting fits with the simply strummed song. In fact, the only thing keeping it from being a country-pop crossover is Sky’s breathy, twang-free vocal delivery.
Sky Ferreira 2012 US Tour

November 12 - Los Angeles, CA (Bardot/School Night)
November 27 - Cambridge, MA (TT And The Bears)

Katy Perry Covers Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” At Obama Fundraiser: Watch
Wearing green, singing Al Green, raising green |
Al Green‘s 1972 classic “Let’s Stay Together” is one of President Obama‘s favorite songs, and while we know the prez himself can belt out the tune, at his “30 Days To Victory” fundraiser on Sunday (October 7) he handed the duties over to Katy Perry. As you can see up top, Perry turned in a straightforward cover, channeling her inner Christina Aguilera on a few runs.
KP headlined the Los Angeles concert along with Jennifer Hudson and Stevie Wonder. The event, which included a $25,000/plate dinner with the president, raised about $5.25 million for the Obama campaign.

Charli XCX Is “So Far Away”: Watch The Trippy Video
DIY Disney Princess |
British electro-pop singer Charli XCX has released the video for “So Far Away,” a toxic love song off her You’re The One EP. The song sees Charli semi-rapping through the verses, while the hook showcases her lovely, underused falsetto.
But the singer doesn’t appear much in Ryan Andrews’ psychedelic video, which features recycled footage of Charli mashed up with Disney princesses. Whereas “You’re The One” had more of a grinding, industrial feel and thus its video took place in a dingy warehouse, this clip’s DIY visual collage fits nicely with the song’s pasted-together elements of rap, pop and chillwave. Watch it up top.

Trey Songz Hangs With Female Football Players In “Hail Mary” Video
Trey Songz's Sexy Super Bowl |
Trey Songz‘ new album Chapter V dropped today (August 21), and besides some promotional appearances on the Today show and Power 105′s The Breakfast Club, Trey also appears in the football-themed video for his single, “Hail Mary”.
The clip features two teams of women competing against one another in a football game, with Trey and VMA host Kevin Hart acting as opposing coaches. (Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne also make cameos.) If that sounds progressive at all, it’s not - the women are playing in booty shorts with their bras exposed, the implication being that women should only play sports if they’re fetishized and sexualized for male attention. Pretty disheartening after watching so many amazing female athletes take part in the Olympics.
That said, you could argue that this is just a hip-hop video, and hot ladies wearing revealing outfits is the norm. (Drake pretty much did the same thing but with basketball in his “Best I Ever Had” video.) We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether “Hail Mary” is way sexy, or way misogynistic.

JoJo Previews Her “Demonstrate” Video
JoJo Gives A Sneak Peek |
JoJo might be scrapping her Jumping Trains album, but she’s full steam ahead on a sexier, more grown-up sound, with her new single “Demonstrate” leading the way. MTV News caught up with the 21-year-old on set of her video for her new Noah “40″ Shebib-produced tune, and JoJo gave us a sneak peek at what to expect. “Demonstrate”, she says, is “buttoned up but freaky at the same time, so that’s what I wanted this video to feel like.”
Over shots of the singer laying seductively on her back, singing through her birdcage veil, and straddling a lucky young man as JoJo describes what’s going on: “There’s a little but of a cat and mouse game,” she says. We also get a shot of two shirtless male dancers busting out some moves to the slow-jam. “I wanted to show dancers doing their thing to this, because I think even though this is a slow tempo song, there’s absolutely a feeling of wanting to move to it,” she explains.
“Demonstrate” hits iTunes on August 28.
