Lana Del Rey’s Next Single Is “Cola”: What Will Taste Like Pepsi Cola In The Radio Edit?

lana del rey cola

On the heels of the release of her lovely Paradise EP and the reissue Born To Die: The Paradise Edition, Lana Del Rey told Just Jared that her next single will be the sultry, controversial Paradise cut “Cola.” Of course, that song’s first line is a haymaker of absurd sexual braggadocio of the type that is usually reserved for the hip-hop realm: “My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola.”

Even without its attention-grabbing opening salvo, the song is worth talking about. It’s all smoky decadence and showcases Lana’s surprisingly strong voice. But this announcement has us thrilled to hear the radio edit. Will the reference to her soda-flavored body part simply be muted out? Will she replace the P-word, and if so, with what? Skin? Lips? Body? Swagger? The possibilities are endless.

In the interview, Lana also revealed that her favorite tracks on the reissue are “Cola” and “Bel Air,” with the latter being her most personal song. Additionally, she wants to use that song and “Gods And Monsters” for a short film, possibly with her frequent video collaborator Anthony Mandler. Lastly, the singer shot down those rumors that she was was the face of a new Versace campaign: “I don't know where that came from! Versace is a brand that we love, but... we're not working together.”

Lil Wayne Loses ‘The Carter’ Lawsuit To The Tune(chi) Of $2 Million

Lil Wayne black and white

Lil Wayne has lost his lawsuit against The Carter filmmaker Quincy Jones III. Weezy sued the documentary’s producers for unauthorized use of Tha Carter III music, and claimed the doc was a "scandalous portrayal" of him. The loss surely stings, but the real damage comes from the countersuit that Tunechi also lost. Jones claimed that the rapper limited the film’s profit potential by blocking its release, and the jury ordered Wayne to pay him $2.195 million. Weezy never appeared in court for the civil trial, partly because he was prohibited from flying after suffering seizure-like symptoms on two recent flights. But based on his absurd deposition and the resultant verbal smackdown from the judge, that absence may have actually helped Weezy’s case.

Ke$ha Did Not Have Sex With Justin Bieber, Gave Miley Cyrus A Used Lollipop For Her Birthday

2012 MTV Video Music Awards

Here’s the latest in Ke$ha news: She had sex with a ghost not once but multiple times, she did not have sex with Justin Bieber and she gave Miley Cyrus the best/worst birthday gift ever. Got it? Great, we’re all up to speed.

K$ appeared on the Australian radio show Hot30 Countdown today (November 5), where she dished on a variety of important newsy topics. She cleared up those much-reported rumors about her intimate relationship with a ghost, explaining that when she lived in a “flop house” on Laurel Canyon, she could barely sleep because the riled-up ghost kept her so busy. On the subject of Justin Bieber, Ke$ha explained that despite buzz to the contrary, she has never hooked up with the Biebz. (Probably because he’s not a ghost, and also out of respect to Selena Gomez.)

ke$ha goes patriotic in 'v' magazine: see the shoot

9 Photos »“I have not, for the record, ever slept with Justin Bieber,” Ke$ha clarified. “More than that, he has a girlfriend who is really, really hot, so… I think he's sorted.”

And despite all the $ that Ke$ha has racked up in her career, she still keeps her birthday presents homemade and personal - especially when it comes to her friend Miley Cyrus, to whom she gifted a hairy lollipop. “One of my dancers had clip-in weaves, so I clipped the weave onto a used lollipop - well, I had to lick it so it would stick,” she explained. “I really put a lot of thought into that. I thought she’d like it.”

Reminder: If Ke$ha is coming to your birthday party, keep your gift expectations low. Listen to the full audio of the interview below.

Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ Has A Possibly Feminist Song Called “G.U.Y. (Girl Under You)”

Lady Gaga Short Shorts

In Lady Gaga‘s recent interview with Britain’s Stylist, (the same one in which she talked about her “bathtub outfit”), the singer revealed her forthcoming project ARTPOP contains a sexually empowering song called “G.U.Y. (Girl Under You).” However, in the interview it was relayed as “Go Under You,” so Gaga took to her Little Monsters site to clarify the name. Gaga mentioned the song when asked about feminism, and her answer involved the phrase “edible things between your limbs.” So you’re gonna want to click through for her full quote.

Lady Gaga Loves NY, Fur

7 Photos »When asked “Can make-up and feminism ever truly be friends?” Gaga responded by explaining her form of feminism:

As a new-age feminist, I would say I quite like the transference of strength I feel by submitting to a man - being under him. I actually wrote a song about it on my album, it's called GUY and it stands for [Girl] Under You. So wearing make-up, smelling delicious and having suckable, kissable, edible things between your limbs is something I find strengthening because I know that when I pick the right guy, I can let him have it. Some women feel oppressed by make-up and clothing, and here's to them, they have every right to feel that way as well.”

Back in September, three other potential ARTPOP song titles popped up online - “Candy Art,” “Cold Hearted Bitch” and “CRWTH”- and Mother Monster also confirmed the album would contain a “Telephone” sequel. But the goal now is to find out which volume of the record all these songs may appear on.

Carly Rae Jepsen & Owl City Sued For Alleged Copyright Infringement On “Good Time”

carly rae jepsen owl city good time

Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City are being sued for allegedly copying the hook in their hit song “Good Time,” according to Billboard. Alabama-based singer-songwriter Allyson Nichole Burnett claims the two acts copied a prominent vocal pattern from her 2010 song “Ah, It’s A Love Song” - basically, the “whoa-oh-oh” hook.

Burnett’s legal team says the “unique vocal motif” is repeated in the song and “has a catchy pop vibe that both draws people in and sticks in people’s heads.” If brain-burrowing sequences of ohs are copyright-protected all of a sudden, then no pop artist is safe and CHAOS WILL REIGN. At least, that’s our take. Hear the relevant sections of both songs below, and see if you think Burnett has a case.

Do you think Carly and Owl City are copycats? Let us know in the comments below, or on Facebook and Twitter.

Nicki Minaj Announces E! Reality Series Premiering November 4

Nicki Minaj The View

Somehow, between releasing a new music video pretty much every day, Nicki Minaj also found time to tape a reality series for E! - even if it’s only three episodes long. The “Va Va Voom” rapstress has a new show premiering November 4, which will offer an inside look at the wild, wacky world of Nicki, featuring “candid moments from her personal and professional life with never-before-seen footage,” according to Rap-Up. We’re holding our breath for a look at how long she spends in the makeup chair every day.

10 Photos »Minaj tweeted that she had just finished watching the DVD that will accompany her upcoming Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up rerelease, due out November 19, as well as the first episode for the E! series.

And yet, while we’re excited to see what Nicki has to offer, we have a sneaking suspicion that the real drama will only unfold when American Idol premieres in January.

Adam Levine Hates Christina Aguilera’s Haters, Too

Christina Aguilera has beef with bloggers - or so she said in a recent Q&A: “Now everyone is a critic... I don't read blogs. It's just God-knows-who in Buttfuck-wherever writing hate-shit. You can't take it seriously. I'm sure you've all been hated on at some point by buttfuck people.” (Is this because we still don’t appreciate Bionic?) Now Adam Levine has sounded off on the topic in Xtina’s defense!

At a Q&A of his own, Adam said this of his Voice co-host’s haters: “The one thing about the culture right now, celebrity culture particularly, is people feel like they can just say nasty things about other people whether it’s Christina or whether it’s me. She gets a lot and it pisses me off. Of course I have her back and of course I defend her.”

While Adam and Christina have reportedly not always gotten along on The Voice, Adam also says those rumors were wildly exaggerated: “We never hated each other. We never were having some sort of secret battles that everyone thought we were having,” describing their squabbling as like “brother and sister.”

And for those who mock the Lotus songbird for her weight gain: “People shouldn't say those kinds of things. Because, f**k you. Come on, guys. Grow up.”

Fair enough, as long as Adam doesn’t start calling us “butffuck people,” too.

Lil Wayne Hospitalized Following In-Flight Medical Emergency

lil wayne lawsuit

It hasn’t been a good week for hip-hop’s moguls: Just a day after Diddy was involved in a car crash in Los Angeles, Lil Wayne was hospitalized following an incident on a private jet where he showed “seizure-like symptoms.” (Yikes!) The flight landed in Texas so Weezy could receive medical attention, where he was in the hospital for several hours before checking out around 6 p.m. A source reports that Wayne is “doing better” now - and all, miraculously, without the help of “#pray4weezy” trending on Twitter.

Taylor Swift On ‘The View’: Watch “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

taylor swift the view

Taylor's View

Taylor Swift has been out promoting Red until she’s red in the face - and it certainly seems to be paying dividends, with the album set to sell a million units in its first week. The most recent stop on Tay’s media blitz was ABC’s The View. The country-pop star chatted with the ladies and performed her mega-hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” complete with a pack of backup singers. Oh, and peep the ridiculously-coiffed guitarist at 1:37.

Watch the performance up top, and click through for her full interview, where she talks about the intense emotions that inspire her lyrics about relationships. Swift also reveals that her exes tend to email her whenever they think one of those songs is about them. (Unless it’s John Mayer - he’ll just mouth off in an interview).

Lil Wayne Says Kanye West Had “A Big Hand” In ‘I Am Not A Human Being II’

lil wayne mtv

Weezy & Yeezy

Lil Wayne and Kanye West have collaborated several times, with Weezy dropping rhymes on “See You In My Nightmares” from Yeezy’s 808s And Heartbreak, and West producing a pair of tracks on Tunechi’s 2008 LP Tha Carter III. The working relationship is continuing with Wayne’s next album, I Am Not A Human Being II (scheduled for a November 13 release).

The Young Money honcho talked to MTV about the album’s production credits and started rattling off names like Juicy J, Cool & Dre and David Banner before revealing Ye’s involvement: “Actually I don’t want to give too much up but Yeezy got a big hand in the album, you’ll see.”

Carly Rae Jepsen’s “This Kiss”: Watch The Retro Lyric Video

carly rae jepsen this kiss lyric video

Saved By The Kiss

For the lyric video to her current single “This Kiss,” Carly Rae Jepsen channels the familiar opening credits of the classic show Saved By The Bell. With the hypercolor palette and “rad ‘tude” cheese of the early ’90s, it fits with the “scribbled in a diary” feel of the lyrics. Overall, it’s a playful accompaniment to a workmanlike pop song. The official music video is on the way, and based on the teaser, it’ll be just as colorful as the lyric vid - though, a little more au courant.

Fiona Apple Apologizes For The “Bulls***,” Clarifies “Lockbox” Rant

Fiona Apple Governors Ball 2012

Fiona Apple on Monday (September 24) in New Orleans apologized to her fans for all the drama surrounding her recent marijuana arrest, according to Billboard. During the performance, she told the crowd “I’m really, really sorry that all the work that we did is being overshadowed by all this bullshit.”

By “all this bullshit,” we’re assuming she means: her September 19 arrest in Sierra Blanca, TX for drug possession (which cost her a night in jail and $10,000 bond, her ensuing rant that the cops treated her illegally and that she would make them “fucking famous” and then the sheriff’s office response that she should “just shut up and sing.”

Fiona Soars at sxsw

7 Photos »

It’s worth noting Apple didn’t explicitly apologize for the drug possession itself. But she did address her perplexing lockbox comments. If you’ll remember, while ranting against the officers who jailed her, she said at a recent show, “I wrote it all down with your names and everything you did and said…I then ripped the paper up, but not before I encoded it and - I got two lock boxes. We'll call them 'holding cell one' and 'holding cell two.' In 'holding cell one' is the encoded version of the shit that you did that I know was inappropriate and probably illegal. In 'holding cell two' is the decoder. I'm the only one who holds the key.”

On Monday, she clarified (we guess?) those comments: “There are no fucking lock boxes. I didn’t make up a code…It was my way of drawing a parallel between the self. I am not that fucked up.” OK! So, now that that’s all behind her…to paraphrase one Rusty Fleming, we can all just shut up and let her sing again.

Ester Dean Plans Missy Elliott Collaboration & Debut Album

pitch perfect premiere 03 250912

Ester Dean recently clocked a mention on our list of the best songs that radio forgot this summer with her buzz track “Bam Bam,” but the bajillion-times-platinum songwriter (who has penned smashes for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and more) is prepping a big U.S. launch with another major talent - rapstress Missy Elliott.

Dean told ESSENCE that though she’ll be launching a different single overseas, her U.S. single, titled “How You Love It,” features Elliott and is set for a release. She also hinted at the upcoming title for her debut. Head after the jump for more details about what to expect from Dean.

When asked about her plans for the album, Dean explained: “I don’t know about [an album title]. It’s all about what song you pick. But I would like it to be called Stories Never Told. I’ve said a lot of things and a lot of people have heard the words I’ve said, but it’s a story never told. They don’t understand what I meant by those words because they were always given out through a different source.” Okay. We get it. We think.

And as for her songwriting process, Dean said that she feels no pressure to deliver a killer album, because her passion for the work is inherent: “I do this because I love it,” she said. “I never feel pressure to do anything. I don’t feel pressure to write songs for them. I do this because I love it. If that moment of pressure makes me feel like I don’t love it - I’ll walk away.”

We just hope she can get the album out before she has to walk away.
